BECOME A VOLUNTEER MENTOR MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE SHINE for Kids is looking for volunteer mentors for a number of our programs with a particular focus on Veterans who would like to share their skills, experience, and appropriate will with young people. She has extensive experience in the education and human services sector and has been a senior manager in a number of diverse government agencies in both the Queensland and MSW public service. Gloria has healthy over two decades of experience busy in community organizations in the areas of justice and disability, with a notable emphasis on the issues faced by children of prisoners. SHINE for Kids is a registered notforprofit organization that has been supporting children and families of prisoners since 1982. For the child, the centers are designed to burst up the visit and offer them some time out and impartial be kids, play with others in the same situation and associate visiting their parent with a pleasing experience. Visiting prisons can be a traumatic, confusing and frequently upsetting time for children, but an enjoyable visit to their parent develops a stronger kid parent bond. A SHINE for Kids worker and trained volunteers give enjoyable and relaxing activities to occupy children between times spent talking to their parent. A ChildParent Activity Day is a particular day set aside for children of prisoners to discard extended time with their parents, without other family members. NAIDOC Week is celebrated each year at Kid and Family centers throughout MSW with a variety of activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inmates and their families, including conventional food, dancing and painting. Over several weeks this program uses group work lessen recidivism by strengthening the connections between Aboriginal inmates and their partners, their children, their children’s carer, their extended family ardor their community elders. SHINE for Kids can also produce extra casework services to young people with a family member in prison by providing: Correctional center staff are familiar with SHINE for Kids and the services we provide. We transport children with no other way of visiting their parent in prison. Our Children’s Supported Transport Service helps children and young people with no other way of visiting their imprisoned parent. We assist children appreciate visiting their parent in prison. A childcare worker employed by SHINE for Kids, together with trained volunteers, provide enjoyable and relaxing activities that yield a fracture not only to the children but also to the parents. Our Community Mentoring Program provides children or young people with a positive relationship with a supportive mature role model, providing consistency and stability in the often disrupted life of a young person without intruding into their family life. Our Education Program Worker and experienced volunteers visit your child’s school once a week. It uses group labor with the inmate, their partner and children, extended family and community Elders. Helping children with no other way of visiting their imprisoned parent. SHINE for Kids realists that visits are important for both children and their parent who is in prison. A kid or young person is eligible to use this Service if: The imprisoned or ex prisoner parent(s) or carer(s) can demonstrate a important relationship with the kid or young person. If the visit is in the best interests of the child or young person. A SHINE for Kids caseworker is responsible for assessing a kid or young person’s suitability to earnings from this Service.
