What you should know about Aurburn Migrant Resource Centre
The ARC’s purpose is to encourage the effective settlement and participation of people from refugee and drifting backgrounds, particularly those who are new arrivals to South Australia. Since its establishment in 1979, the ARC has worked with many transient and refugee settlement groups, helping them to adjust to their fresh homeland, become self reliant and thrive linkages with the broader community and their local ethnic communities. The ARC believes that its client groups have a fundamental right to respect, privacy and safety equality of opportunity and independence through community and workforce participation and cultural expression. The ARC is committed to achieving the superior settlement outcomes for its client groups by developing, maintaining and enhancing partnerships with all spheres of government, other service providers, communities and the private sector, and by advocating on behalf of its client groups and representing their interests to all levels of government. The ARC contributes to the development of public policy on settlement and migration matters and to mainstream public policy and service planning that affects health, well being, access, equity and socioeconomic inclusion for Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The ARC has a number of local drifting resource centers in numerous metropolitan and regional locations providing settlement and other allied services to fresh and establishing communities and supporting community cultural diversity, development and harmony. The ARC receives funding from a wide range of Commonwealth and state government agencies and from consultancy, sponsorship and donations. The ARC board of management is drawn from ARC members and transient communities.

The Adelaide ARC provides a venue, administrative facilities and support, including IT, to client groups. Community members may use administrative resources and facilities to prepare assignments and job applications, and to conduct their community activities. The information clearing house, located in the equivalent building, is accessed by clients and their communities, service providers and students for resources on multiculturalism, immigration and settlement. The clearing house provides consumable resources, a database and a library. Facilities and various resources are available to client groups in the northern Adelaide area. Various facilities and resources are provided to client groups, and English Language training through amen is delivered through this center. A recent addition has been the ARC community center old for various cultural, education training and social activities by the client groups in the region. This facility provides training and social community development space for new settlers in the Ta tiara district. A professional childcare service is available for ARC clients so they can access the services they require, attend information and training sessions and participate in programs and activities. The cache provides labor experience programs for bilingual women from fresh and establishing community client groups, as well as a parenting program. Services
The ARC provides a long range of settlement services to fresh arrivals of migrant and humanitarian background, maximum of who are in their first five years of settlement. Allied specialist services targeted to groups with specific needs: women, young people at risk, families with children, men, and small and distant groups of fresh settlers in metropolitan and regional South Australia are also delivered through funding from both the state and Commonwealth governments. The ARC provides a number of specialist support services through premature intervention programs to young people, women, men and families at risk. The service targets recently arrived families of humanitarian background with children at risk, and it provides crisis intervention and management, case coordination, and empowerment and mentoring programs. This service provides health and healthy being programs including counseling, group urge and advocacy, as healthy as linkages with GP networks, SA Health and other specialist services. Emergency relief is provided to eligible individuals and families in emergency need, either directly or through their community groups and organizations. The ARC works closely with leaders and key representatives of its client communities, including women and young people, to encourage them to thrive both their knowledge of Australian systems and their skills to negotiate these systems. This work aims to assist communities achieve independence and the capacity to aid their own members with settlement and participation. The ARC has an extensive network of more than 300 highly experienced and trained bilingual volunteers speaking more than 80 languages who bear assistance across all program areas, supporting the organization to achieve its objectives. The volunteer program provides a beginning entry point into labor experience and a pathway to vocational training and employment for people of refugee background. The volunteer program also includes a youth volunteer team of energetic bilingual young people of humanitarian entrant background. These young volunteers are recruited, inducted and trained in workplace ethics and industrial and legal responsibilities including occupational health and safety, reporting, client services, youth rights, public speaking, training pathways to enhance skills, and capacity building as role models and mentors to their respective communities. Many groups also yield mentoring and other forms of help with recreational activities, as healthy as training through the ARC women’s empowerment program. ARC WORKS focuses on strategies for recognizing the value of and building upon earlier learning, developing skills, and developing various pathways to further training and employment. It does this through the volunteer program and a number of government and non government funded training and work experience initiatives. ARC WORKS is a registered training organization providing cultural awareness training, a number of certificate courses, and training and employment initiatives in partnership with industry councils, employers and cafe SA. The IT project targets young people from fresh and establishing communities who are not engaged in labor or school. Participants will enlarge their knowledge of Australian workplace culture and teamwork, strengthen their interpersonal skills, easy skills and technical skills, and become labor ready. The ARC conducts cultural development projects to foster people of humanitarian background to participate in ingenious arts. Projects are delivered through partnerships with arts organizations that promote participation of young people, their families and communities. The arts program works closely with young people and the ARC community development teams.
